KUCHING: Sarawak Day celebrations serve as a platform to educate the younger generation about the state’s history.
Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim said it is also a way to commemorate the state’s past warriors.
“We also hope that the history of Sarawak Day can be formally included in history textbooks in schools,” he said during the Sarawak Day celebration at Kampung Burung Lilin recently.
Batu Kitang assemblyman Datuk Lo Khere Chiang, who was also present, echoed these sentiments, urging the people of Sarawak to take pride in their heritage and actively protect their rights.
He emphasised the need for the youth to seize educational opportunities for the future prosperity of the state.
“We are fortunate to have wise leaders like the late Tan Sri Adenan Satem and our beloved Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg,” he added.
Lo also congratulated the village chief Poniman Dahlan for successfully leading Kampung Burung Lilin and fostering community cooperation.
During the event, he presented a cheque for RM2,000 to the Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) to support future activities.
The celebration featured a variety of engaging activities, including Zumba sessions, a colouring competition for children, and traditional games that brought joy to participants of all ages. Additionally, there was a lucky draw.
