PADAWAN: Unity, mutual respect and love for the country ensure the harmony of a plural society, thus must be maintained, said Federal Deputy Plantation Industries and Commodities Minister Willie Mongin.
“Do not be easily influenced by various efforts that lead to the collapse of unity and peace.
“Everyone needs to increase love for the country,” he said in conjunction with the ‘Program Kembara Bermotosikal Hari Malaysia Jelajah Parlimen Puncak Borneo’ organised by Bidayuh Big Bikers Club here last Wednesday.
He said social problems such as drug abuse, illegal racing and so on, should be curbed by holding beneficial activities.
“All parties need to continue to work together, in addition to instilling unity and enhancing their identity as Malaysians.”
The inaugural convoy, which started from the Puncak Borneo Parliamentary Service Centre and ended at Kampung Skio Bau, attracted 120 high-powered motorcycles.
At the same event, Willie also presented RM140,000 to several organisations in the village namely Projek Mesra Rakyat (RM100,000 to build drainage system), St Edward Church (RM30,000) and Women’s Bureau (RM10,000).
The Puncak Borneo MP also presented incentives to outstanding students and a contribution to chronic patients from the village.
Also present were Malaysian Rubber Board member Dr Benedict Poris, Kenaf and Malaysian Tobacco Board member Paul Akui Bandat and Bidayuh Big Bikers Club president Christopher Johem.
