BINTULU: More than 100 participants took part in the Dance For Youth Yeah Fun Run 5KM to instil awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle practices in everyday life.
The flagging off of the participants was officiated by special officer to Bintulu Member of Parliament Steven Kong Kai Seng representing Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing at the Tanjung Batu Beach carpark, yesterday morning.
The programme organised by the Bintulu Division Dance Association, among other things, aims to raise awareness to the community to practice a healthy lifestyle through leisure activities, as well as to foster awareness of the importance of healthy lifestyle practices in everyday life.
In his brief speech, Tiong hoped that the encouraging participation could give encouragement and enthusiasm to the community to continue a healthy lifestyle in their lives from now on.
“This kind of programme can foster the interest of teenagers and the community to always be active in exercising considering that nowadays we are susceptible to various types of diseases and pollution,” he said.
On the same vein, this sports event is one of the best mediums in uniting the community regardless of rank, age, gender and race and everyone has a role in cultivating sports in their lives.
He explained that a fit and active life is important for the health of the body and will in turn produce an intelligent thinking and a creative mind.
“A healthy body will also produce a fit person with an intelligent mind.
“Therefore, the community should practice a healthy lifestyle like this every day and not just participate in programmes like this, thus hoping to increase the number of activities and programmes towards a healthy lifestyle,” he added.
