India’s Covid-19 death toll rises to 2,752

NEW DELHI: India’s federal health ministry Saturday morning said 103 new deaths due to Covid-19, besides fresh 3,970 positive cases were reported since Friday in the country, taking the number of deaths to 2,752 and total cases to 85,940, China’s Xinhua news agency reported.

“As on 8am (local time) Saturday, 2,752 deaths related to novel Coronavirus have been recorded in the country,” reads information released by the ministry.

On Friday morning the number of Covid-19 cases in the country was 81,970, and the death toll was 2,649.

According to ministry officials, so far 30,153 people have been discharged from hospitals after showing improvement.

“The number of active cases in the country right now is 53,035,” reads the information.

Saturday marks the 53rd straight day of ongoing lockdown across the country announced by the Centre Government to contain the spread of the pandemic.

The lockdown, announced on March 25, was again extended for the second time on May 1 until May 17. The fourth phase is scheduled to begin from Monday, as announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 12.
