SIBU: An Indonesian was arrested by the Marine Police for transporting 50 illegal timber logs of various species worth RM152,400 at Mile 40, Jalan Sibu-Selangau, yesterday.

Sarawak Marine Police Region Five (PPMW5) commander ACP Shamsol Kassim said about 11.15pm last Monday, a team of enforcement officers from the department stopped a lorry which was laden with the logs.

Shamsol said the logs had not been stamped by the owner and the Sarawak Forestry Department.

The 42-year-old driver of the lorry also failed to produce any document or permit from SFD for the logs.

“All the logs were obtained illegally, which is an offence under the Sarawak Forestry Ordinance 2015,” he said, adding that the case had been referred to Sarawak Forestry Sibu for further action.
