KUCHING: An Indonesian teenager was fined RM1,500, in default two months in prison, after pleading guilty to impersonating as a police officer and possessing a police uniform without authorisation.
Her actions were motivated by her desire to become a police officer and to have a boyfriend who serves as one.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to two charges under Section 170 of the Penal Code and Section 89 (C) of the Police Act 1967.
She could also face punishment under Section 94 of the Police Act 1967. These charges were presented before Magistrate Zubaidah Sharkawi.
The alleged offences took place at the Satok Police Station on Sept 12 at around 2.30pm.
According to the case’s facts, the police detained the teenager at the inquiry counter as she was wearing a complete police uniform under suspicious circumstances. She had also introduced herself as a police officer.
Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the teenager had impersonated a police officer by wearing the police uniform without permission.
Additionally, upon inspection of theteenager’s passport, itwas also found that she had overstayed in Malaysia for 54 months and 22 days.
For this offence, she was charged under Section 15(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 and can be punished under Section 15(4) of the same Act in the Sessions Court.
Judge Abdul Hamid sentenced her to a fine of RM10,000, in default six months in prison.
The prosecution of the case was led by deputy public prosecutor Ruvinasini Pandian and prosecuting officer Inspector Merylene Lindan Andrew Mang.
