SAMARAHAN: The third edition of the Samarahan Food Festival will have added elements — chefs from Indonesia and Thailand.
MPKS chairman Datuk Peter Minos said the organisers, Majlis Perbandaran Kota Samarahan (MPKS) and Samarahan Resident Office, have invited these cooks who will feature strongly during the festival from Nov 1 to 11 in front of the Summer Mall here.
“They promised to dish out original and authentic Thai and Indonesian delicacies,” said Minos, adding that the Indonesian consulate here is actively helping MPKS on this.
He said some Japanese restaurants in Kuching and food caterers of fine dining have also indicated interest to participate.
“We welcome them because it is our hope to see that Samarahan, which is recognised as a knowledge centre, will also be recognised as and a centre of unique exotic culinary,” he said.
He said locals are known for cooking up some of the best seafood-based dishes.
“Close to the sea and with many local fishermen, Samarahan boasts of having the best seafood around.
“You name it, we have it — from ikan terubok to big prawns udang galah (big prawns) to crabs and ambal (bamboo clams).
“The way the people of Samarahan prepare their seafood is second to none,” added Minos.
