SIBU: An Indonesian welder was found dead in a shipyard at Jalan Bukit Lan, Sungai Bidut, last Saturday.

District police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said the incident happened around 4.30pm and the victim was identified as Marlan Rusdi, 45, from Bentunai, Singkawang.

Marlan’s colleagues found his body underneath a ship he was repairing and immediately informed their employer, who then called an ambulance and lodged a police report.

“Examinations by paramedics from Sibu Hospital found that there were two burn marks on the victim’s left chest.

“It is believed that the victim was electrocuted while repairing a ship,” he said.

Investigations found that the victim went to work as usual at 7.30am and there were no signs of foul play.

Stanley added that the victim was found fully dressed in his work clothes and was wearing gloves.

The case is being classified as sudden death, pending post-mortem.
