SIBU: Indonesian racers dominated the Borneo International Remote Control (RC) Power Boat Tournament at Taman Tasik Permai, here, from April 28 to 30.
The overall champion title was won by Indonesia through Nur Rahman Rivai who competed in Class D to take home a cash prize of RM8,000.
Second and third placings respectively were racers from Brunei, Mr F9 and Muhamad Iskandar.
Meanwhile in Class H, a racer from Thailand, Dawut emerged as the champion. Nur Rahman came in second and Thailand, Beever Bee was third.
In Class F, Indonesia made another surprise when their racers Roy Arfian, Nur Rahman and Samuel Mamat clean swept the top three placings.
Indonesia again was made an impact in class I competition when Roy Arfian and Samuel Mamat won the first and second placings to leave Zulfikri of Malaysia third.
In Class E and G, Indonesia finished second and third placings, as Brunei became the champion.
In class A, the first place was won by Frinky of Brunei, followed by Somchai of Thailand and Syamtar Pok of Malaysia.
In Class B event, Thailand took the first and second placings through Dawut and Few Diamond, followed by Rahba of Malaysia.
The other competition held was ‘Unity Race’ which brought together 58 remote control speed boats where the event was won by Thailand.
Second Finance Minister, Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, who witnessed the final of the two-day race gave way the main prizes.
Also giving away the prizes were chairman of the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC), Datuk Tiong Thai King, former deputy of SMC, Datuk Andrew Wong, co-chairman of the Visit Sibu 2017 (TMS 2017), Councilor Wong Hie Ping and Sibu Resident, Hii Chang Kee.
The champions for the seven categories took home cash prize of RM5,000 and a trophy while second placings received RM3,000 and trophy and RM1,500 and trophy third placings.
The fourth and fifth spots respectively received RM800 and RM400 while the sixth to 10th placings received RM150 each.
The tournament attracted more than 600 remote control speedboat racers from across the country and abroad and has been recorded in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for the most participation by the remote-controlled boats in Southeast Asia.
The event was organised by the Sibu Remote Control Sports Club (SRCSC) in collaboration with TMS 2017.
Also present at the final was the organising chairman, Peter Ling, chairman of SRCSC, Andrew Ling Ching Ping and director of the international race from Kuching, Abang Nawawi Bolhassan.
