SIBU: The Sibu Indoor Stadium has been identified as a suitable venue for the proposed quarterly Program Pasar Ria.
Deputy Minister of Public Health, Housing and Local Government Michael Tiang said the programme is expected to start in the next quarter, providing an opportunity for entrepreneurs to introduce and market their products.
“I have held discussions with the Sibu Resident Office regarding this proposal, and we may be able to utilise the Sibu Indoor Stadium.
“I believe it is a suitable location for the market carnival as it offers ample parking space and is easily accessible to the public. I think it is a good choice,” he said after officiating Program Promosi Usahawan: Pasar Ria Desa KEMAS Tahun 2023 here, today (June 25).
He said that he will request the Resident Office to lead the efforts by engaging the Community Development Department (Kemas), the Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development, and the Department of Welfare to form a committee for establishing the programme.
“Local entrepreneurs need this platform as a starting point for all types of products and services. I believe we can help build their confidence, improve the quality of their services and products, and now we need to bring them to the market.
“We can start the market carnival next quarter, I believe we can do it. Other agencies have shown interest and support for this idea,” he added.
Meanwhile, on the programme, Tiang said it is a good platform and model that should be continuously supported and organised.
“In conjunction with the celebration of Sarawak’s 60th Independence Anniversary, the Sibu Resident Office and the Ministry of Youth, Sports, and Entrepreneur Development jointly organised a programme for local entrepreneurs known as Sibu Kitchen at the Sibu Indoor Stadium, which received a great response,” he said.
