SIBU: The Sarawak state anthem ‘Ibu Pertiwiku’ will echo in the town’s 21st Malaysia Games (SUKMA) venue for the first time as the Sarawak women’s indoor volleyball team clinched gold here.
In what seemed like redemption after the men’s team fell to Selangor, dashing their gold medal hopes, the women delivered a commanding 3-1 victory over Selangor today.
Sarawak started strong in the gold medal match, which kicked off at 9 am, taking the first set 25-15.
Despite Selangor’s efforts to rally in the second set, Sarawak remained dominant, securing the set 25-16.
However, in the third set, Selangor managed to turn the tables, winning narrowly 25-21 and forcing Sarawak to a deciding set.
Unfortunately, Selangor’s joy was short lived as Sarawak sealed their victory with a 25-18 win in the fourth set, earning the hard-fought gold and leaving Selangor with the silver.
Later at 3 pm, Federal Territories and Selangor will fight for gold medals in the men’s indoor volleyball event.
Last night, the Sarawak men managed to clinch the bronze when they defeated Johor 3-0.
