BELAGA: A newborn baby boy was discovered by members of the public in the bushes along Km1, Jalan Bukit Jayong on Tuesday.

Belaga police chief DSP Jimbai Bala reported that the finding was brought to their attention at 4 pm, prompting an immediate dispatch of a response team to the location.

Upon arrival, the team found the infant wrapped in cloth, is still alive and they took him to Belaga health clinic for a check-up.

Medical assessments indicate that the infant, believed to be less than 24 hours old, is in good condition and weighed 2.9kg.

The newborn has been subsequently referred to Bintulu Hospital for further medical attention before being handed over to the Welfare Department for appropriate measures.

The case is being investigated under Section 317 of the Penal Code, which carries up to seven years imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
