KUCHING: Families, who are not home this Christmas, are urged to inform the police so that their houses will be safe from robbers.

Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said throughout ‘Ops Selamat’, which started from Dec 18 until Jan 1 next year, the police would be patrolling residential areas.

“Those who are going back to their villages are advised to inform us by filling in the forms on our website. They can also turn up at any police station to fill in the forms to let us know when they will leave their houses and when they will return.

“We will try to patrol their areas to ensure they are safe from any crime,” he told reporters after the launch of ‘Ops Selamat’ today at Boulevard Shopping Mall.

Aidi also urged those who would be going on long journeys to plan ahead, to be cautious on the road and obey the traffic laws.

He said they must also adhere to the Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as the wearing of face masks and hand sanitisers.

“My hope for Christmas is for this Covd-19 pandemic to be over so that everything can return to normal.

“For the police, we will continue to ensure the public complies with the rules set by the government,” he said.
