KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Institute for Rural Advancement (INFRA) Campus of Sarawak Branch will be fully completed by June this year.
The campus is the second INFRA training campus in the country which costs about RM55.6 million after the main campus in Bangi, Selangor.
Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Openg said that the campus would become a training centre especially for the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK).
“Secondly, it would be a facility for us to train our rural entrepreneurs in the state,” he added when met by reporters after officiating the soft launching of INFRA at Kota Samarahan here yesterday.
He revealed that he has agreed to develop a Bio-Industrial Park that includes agricultural industry and biodiversity resources based industry in Kota Samarahan, near Agriculture Collection Centre.
“With the development of the Bio-Industrial Park, we could develop a lot of downstream activities for industry based on natural resources including biodiversity and modern agriculture.
“We also have received suggestions from overseas companies that are interested to cooperate with the Sarawak Biodiversity Centre for raw material research from the state,” he said, adding that the park would also be a facility to train entrepreneurs from the rural areas.
Meanwhile, during a briefing on the INFRA campus, the Public Works Department (JKR) Putrajaya General Building 2 Works Branch Director, Samini Omar said that the construction should be completed in March but because of technical delay, the construction period has been extended.
“We will hand over the campus to the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development in July for operation,” she added.
Among the facilities available at INFRA campus are administrative complex, academic blocks for learning, hostel and dining hall.
Also present were the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, State Secretary, Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani, Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development, Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi and Kota Samarahan Member of Parliament, Rubiah Wang.
