KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister, Tan Sri Dr James Masing who introduced “Engine Pump racing or locally known as “Injin Pump” has proven to be a big hit among the youngsters.

Masing who is also Baleh Assemblyman and Minister of Infrastructure and Transportation said Kapit is easily the centre of power boat racing in Sarawak which is organised twice a year and attracts racers from all over Sarawak including Brunei.

He said the sport is healthy and good for school children aged between 15 and 18 to participate in races which will train and develop their mechanical instincts.

“This will also train them to be jockey or driver of power boat in their adult lives,” he added.

Masing introduced this type of boat race as ‘injin pump’ is much cheaper and slower and can be managed well by teenagers. He said such sports can keep youngsters in the central region from undesirable activities.
