KUCHING: Agencies within the Ministry of Tourism, Performing Arts and Creative Industry were told to be creative and innovative to improve their delivery of services.
Its Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said creativity would allow these agencies to compete and come up with fresh ideas for the benefit of the industry.
“Every organisation whether it is profit or non-profit based, will compete to create a truly creative idea of the benefit of those organisations.
“While creativity defined as a thinking process that motivating towards realising a new idea in which could become a reality,” he said.
He said this in a text of speech read by his deputy Datuk Snowdan Lawan at the closing ceremony of the Ministry’s Creative and Innovative Week and Convention at a leading hotel here last night.
Abdul Karim said government agencies must step up and use different approaches in to render their services.
“We need to always think outside of a box in order to deliver service that is even better and more quality, thus fulfil the demands and aspiration of the customers,” he added.
He also encouraged on the development of the hybrid-based project collaboration between agencies such as Sarawak Sport Council (MSS) and Sarawak Tourism Board, museum and Sarawak Craft Council including the industry players.
“By widening the scope of solution of a certain issue, the outcome will be more significant,” he said.
Abdul Karim added that today’s competitive landscape means standards have been raised along with the expectations of the public.
“If our services are still delivered based on the traditional ways, we may face dissatisfaction of users, loss of funding and revenue, loss of business and investment, deterioration of environment and health”.
It is pertinent, he said, that agencies strive to continuously innovate, adapt, and improve the quality and reach of their service.
“In doing so, Sarawak will naturally become more competitive, and the globalised landscape will reward us with more investment inflow, increased revenue stream and most importantly, a Sarawak that is more liveable and prosperous”.
Separately, the Ministry’s permanent secretary Hii Chang Kee in his speech congratulated delegates at the convention.
“As much as eight group had joined this convention for the first time and I believe the participants had shown their commitment with their own style, thus fulfil the main objective of the convention,” said Hii.
