KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Child and Adolescent Learning and Wellbeing Centre (CALW) at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) marks a significant milestone, pioneering a hub that focuses on advancing research and innovation in child and adolescent learning, development, and well-being.

CALW, the first of its kind in Sarawak, aims to lead the region in enhancing the learning and well-being of children and adolescents.

Professor Ir Dr Siti Noor Linda Taib, UNIMAS’s Deputy Vice Chancellor for Research and Innovation, highlighted the university’s strong commitment to addressing the needs of children and adolescents. The centre focuses on crucial aspects such as learning, emotional resilience, well-being, and overall development.

Expressing optimism, she emphasized CALW’s pivotal role in shaping a healthier and more inclusive future for upcoming generations.

“At CALW, researchers adopt an inclusive approach with a specific focus on atypical learners, children facing learning difficulties, and the well-being of children and adolescents with unique developmental needs,” she noted.

She emphasized that CALW aims to establish itself as a vital knowledge and support hub for academics globally, as well as for parents, educators, policymakers, and healthcare professionals, through research, innovative program implementation, and a multidisciplinary approach.

This comprehensive strategy allows the centre to tailor its techniques efficiently to meet the varied requirements of the community, especially emphasizing the development of innovative intervention tools for children facing learning difficulties.

Siti highlighted that the centre embodies UNIMAS’s core values of excellence in education, innovation, community engagement, and industry collaboration.

“Our aim goes beyond imparting knowledge; we strive to nurture empathy, understanding, and personal growth. By supporting the well-being and education of children and adolescents, we are securing the overall health and prosperity of our society,” she concluded.
