SIBU: Individuals with special needs (OKU) here can now apply for insurance coverage with Sibu and Lanang Parliamentary service centres.

Lanang MP Alice Lau said this special insurance coverage for the OKU provides up to six types of benefits for the insurers.

They include RM10,000 for death due to accident, RM1,500 for funeral service, RM3,000 for natural death, RM500 for medical expenses as a result of accident, RM300 ambulance fee due to accident and RM20 daily hospital allowance for between two and 30 days.

“Without any insurance, it is quite a burden for the OKUs and their family members. So this insurance will provide them with protection to assist them in times of emergency,” she said yesterday.

The insurance coverage is for one year. It does not cover suicide and AIDS.

On the eligibility to apply for the insurance coverage, Lau said that the applicants must be an OKU aged between seven and 65 years old, registered with the Welfare Department and holders of an OKU card.
