KUCHING: The Insurance Society of Sarawak (PIS) is well-positioned to lead the charge in promoting inclusive growth and professionalism within the insurance fraternity, particularly in Sarawak.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof has lauded PIS’s dedication to advancing educational programmes for both its members and the general public.
He emphasised that these initiatives are instrumental in cultivating a higher standard of qualified insurance practitioners, thereby enhancing public confidence in the industry.
“The commitment of PIS to educational programmes is commendable and will undoubtedly lead to a higher standard of qualified insurance practitioners. This, in turn, will enhance public confidence in the industry,” he said.
He said this in his speech read out by his political secretary Irwan Zulkarnain Muhammad Hasbie during the PIS 45th anniversary dinner at a here, last night (Sept 13).
Fadillah also said that with the steadfast support from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and various associations such as the Persatuan Insurans Am Malaysia (PIAM), Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM), and Malaysian Insurance & Takaful Brokers Association (MITBA), PIS will effectively engage and organise outreach programs that contribute to the progressive development and transformation of the insurance industry in Sarawak.
“The theme for tonight’s celebration ‘Trust, Synergy & Wisdom’ is both fitting and inspiring. Over the past 45 years, PIS has exemplified these values, fostering trust, encouraging synergy, and demonstrating wisdom among industry peers.
“Your commitment to professionalism has significantly enriched the insurance community in Malaysia, particularly here in Sarawak.
“I am delighted to recognize the remarkable journey of PIS. What began as a social club has evolved into a vibrant organisation that unites local industry players,” he added.
He said PIS has collaborated to share best practices, educate, and enhance skills, tirelessly working to develop human capital among its members while engaging with the public through meaningful services over the past 45 years since 1979.
“Furthermore, with the recent launch of the Future Skills Framework (FSF) for
the Malaysian Financial Sector, which is a key component of the Financial Sector
Blueprint 2022 – 2026 by Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), we are poised for
transformative change.
“The FSF aims to identify talent landscapes, future job trends, and structural shifts to prepare our workforce, ensuring adaptability and relevance while bridging talent gaps.
“Together with the private sector, we must continuously nurture a sustainable supply of skilled professionals within the local insurance fraternity to fulfil both national and Sarawak government development visions,” he said.
