KUCHING: Based on the rainfall records from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), the precipitation on Nov 14 at Mile 6½ Pan Borneo Highway, measuring 105 mm in one hour, is categorised as intense rainfall, said Tan Kai.

The chairman of Padawan Municipal Council further noted that, in reality, any rainfall surpassing 60 mm is considered very heavy rain.

He expressed this concern in a press statement yesterday regarding the flash flood event.

“The flash flood event which occurred on that afternoon has happened again for the second time this year.

“I do not want to speculate the causes of the flash flood but MPP officers, community leaders and councillors had gone on-site during the flash flood to study and find the possible causes of the flash flood,” he said.

He has shared videos recorded by the public and local residents with the Public Works Department (PWD) and will persist in coordinating with them and other pertinent departments to address and mitigate the flash floods in this area.
