KUCHING: The expertise of Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), particularly its researchers, is needed in identifying new potential that can be used to drive the state’s development agenda by the year 2030.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg stated that he hoped UNIMAS researchers would increase their research and innovation in a way that emphasises economic prosperity, environmental sustainability, and community inclusion.
“UNIMAS researchers’ high-impact research and innovation results can be used as a guide and reference in developing this state and, at the same time, can provide greater benefits to the people of Sarawak,” he said at the second session of the UNIMAS’s 26th Convocation Ceremony at DeTAR Putra, UNIMAS in Kota Samarahan today (Nov 1).
At the same time, he said the large-scale infrastructure development and shift to a digital economy that are currently occurring in Sarawak also require the participation of competent and young professionals.
“With that, I would like to advise graduates here to prepare themselves with the latest knowledge and skills needed in the Industrial Revolution era.
“Take advantage of all the knowledge and skills acquired over the years at UNIMAS to seize opportunities in this broad and challenging new economic shift,” he said.
He added UNIMAS, which has been established for three decades, is capable of equipping its graduates with all the knowledge and skills needed today.
“Also, make use of all the knowledge and skills you have gained to bring advancement to your family, community, and country,” said Abang Johari.
