KUCHING: There are high hopes for the Sarawak Muay Thai squad to maintain their performance and strive for better results in the upcoming Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in August.
Sarawak Muay Thai Association (PMNS) president Jumaat Ibrahim said the Muay Thai team are currently undergoing rigorous training abroad to prepare themselves for the coming SUKMA event from Aug 15 to 20 in Bintulu.
”They are currently abroad undergoing intensive training with hopes that the exposure will be able to assist them and enhance their readiness for the coming SUKMA,” he said.
He expressed confidence that the overseas training would raise the standard of the Sarawak Muay Thai team for the coming SUKMA and ensure that Sarawak becomes a powerhouse in the sport
Jumaat was speaking to reporters at Eden Cafe in Padungan yesterday (July 15) after a press conference was held on a programme celebrating orphans by the Sarawak State Muaythai Association and Perkip.
Jumaat hopes that the team can improve on their previous SUKMA’s Muay Thai performance.
“Insya-Allah we will be able to defend our status. We have young Sarawak athletes representing not just the state, but also Malaysia internationally in muay thai.
“Their progress reflects the fruits of our association’s efforts in the sports,” he said.
Additionally, Jumaat said that PMNS, in collaboration with Persatuan Kebajikan Islam Jabatan Kesihatan Negeri Sarawak (PERKIP), will host 50 orphaned children at Eden Cafe today.
“This inaugural event coincides with the significant Islamic day of 10 Muharram in the Hijri calendar, known for its blessings.
“Activities include collective recitation of Yasin, Tahlil, and an iftar gathering with the children, along with prayers for world peace, community protection, and the success of all endeavors,” he said.
Jumaat then said that the participating orphaned children are from tahfiz centres in Kampung Siol Kandis and Taman Sukma Kuching.
