KUCHING: Sarawak police confirmed that inter-district travel permits are not required anymore and roadblocks have been lifted effective Tuesday (June 9).
Sarawak Police Commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail said control over cross-border movements was no longer required following the announcement by the Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) to allow inter-district travel to take effect from today (June 10).
He also revealed that roadblocks would be tightened along the state’s borders to prevent the entry of illegal immigrants into Sarawak.
“Roadblocks at district borders will be withdrawn while border roadblocks between countries will be strengthened to curb the entry of illegals,” he said.
Aidil also noted that special monitoring teams would still be deployed throughout Sarawak to ensure that activities prohibited under the standard operating procedures (SOPs) would not take place.
SDMC earlier in a statement, he said that a total of 3,619 inter-district travel applications were received by 28 police district headquarters throughout Sarawak yesterday (June 9).
The statement added that the compliance task force also monitored 1,899 locations including 318 supermarkets, restaurants (395), factories (24), banks (193), government offices (63), hawkers (24), farmers markets (165), worship places (101), leisure places (183), construction sites (15) and others (760).
