KUCHING: Sarawak will allow inter-zone movement without the need for police permit, effective Aug 15.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said SDMC had deliberated on the Covid-19 situation in the state and obtained health and economic views from the Ministry of Health (MOH) and tourism industry.

“After taking into account the matter, the committee hereby allows the movement between zones in Sarawak without having to apply for a permit from the police effective Aug 15,” he told the press at the daily Covid-19 update on Monday (Aug 10).

At present, the movement restriction between Zone 1 (red and yellow districts) and Zone 2 (green districts) is still ongoing since Aug 1.

Zone 1 covers Kuching, Samarahan and Serian while Zone 2 covers the areas of Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Kapit, Mukah, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang districts.

Uggah further said that to enhance contact tracing and enforcement, all business premises were required to record the personal details of visitors who enter the premises (name and phone number) or use the application (MySejahtera / QMunity / COVIDTrace).

When asked whether the use of QMunity and COVIDTrace apps would be redundant with the federal government’s directive in making the use of MySejahtera as mandatory for businesses, Uggah said the additional platforms would serve as options for the users.

“The users can use any of the options, be it MySejahtera, QMunity or COVIDTrace…because it serves the same purpose.

“The app will monitor the premises you have visited and it will smoothen the process of contract tracing,” he added.
