KUALA LUMPUR: International Archives Week 2024 kicked off, emphasising the critical role of digital transformation in preserving Malaysia’s heritage.

The event, inaugurated by Deputy Minister of National Unity Senator Saraswathy Kandasami, runs from June 9 to 14 nationwide.

It aims to raise public awareness, particularly among the youth, about the importance of archival institutions and their historical materials.

Initially celebrated as International Archives Day on June 9 each year, the event was expanded to a week-long celebration in 2019 by the International Council on Archives (ICA) to allow global archival institutions to conduct various programs and activities.

The National Archives of Malaysia (ANM), an active Institutional Member (Category A) of the ICA, leads this celebration.

“Aligned with the Ministry of National Unity’s initiatives, the event underscores efforts to preserve archival materials as national heritage. The theme for this year’s celebration, #CyberArchives, focuses on technological advancements in the archival field,” stated a press release.“During the c
