KUCHING: The Miss Tourism International 2022 World Final (MTI) in Lundu from Nov 11 to 27 will place the town in international spotlight.

Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah said this at the MTI official launching of the International Friendship Pathway  in Lundu Town Square today.

He said beauty pageant finalists from some 60 countries will arrive in Lundu on November 17 for publicity and promotion of culture and goodwill activities.

“The pageant will be brought to Lundu, and the organisers plan to leave their ‘footprint charm’ there. It will serve as a medium to the outside world since the finalists will be in Lundu to shoot pictures and films that will be shared on all social media sites.

“This is also a way of marketing ourselves and showing potential visitors the tourist products that we have,” he said.

Karim pointed out that the pageant is a unique tourism attraction that will place more of an emphasis on social media instead of numbers.

He said the state government has invested billions in promoting Sarawak, therefore the pageants’ role as ambassadors requires the organisers to make sure that anything they present would be met with praise.

The MTI was first held in Sarawak in 1994.
