KUCHING: The 15th International UNIMAS Engineering Conference (EnCon 2024) attracted representatives from 11 countries to the state capital, underlining Sarawak’s dedication to advancing research and innovation in engineering, the built environment, and technology.
Organisd by Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) in partnership with The Institution of Engineers Malaysia Sarawak Branch, Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), and Indonesian universities Universitas Tanjungpura (UNTAN) and Universitas Pembangunan Jaya (UPJ), the two-day conference which began today, serves as a pivotal platform for networking and collaboration among professionals and industry leaders.
The three-day conference event was officiated by Deputy Infrastructure Development Minister Datuk Aidel Lariwoo who represented Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
Notable keynote addresses were delivered by eight speakers, including Aidel and Transport Ministry permanent secretary Datuk Alice Jawan Empaling.
With over 160 technical papers presented across various domains, participants gained insights into electrical and electronics, mechanical and manufacturing and civil engineering.
The conference also facilitated the exchange of memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between UNIMAS’s Faculty of Engineering and other institutions, further fostering collaboration and partnership in research and development.
Meanwhile, the International Science and Engineering Expo (iSTEEX), held on Jan 17 as part of EnCon 2024, highlighted the creativity and innovation of 23 teams of young participants who presented practical projects using recyclable materials, reinforcing the commitment to STEM education excellence.
The event culminated in a technical discourse on the Sarawak Hydrogen Plant, offering delegates a glimpse into sustainable energy solutions and highlighting the conference’s dedication to pioneering research and development in engineering and technology.
