BINTULU: The Bintulu International Kite Festival (BIKF) has returned for its 16th edition after a four-year break caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Bintulu Development Authority’s (BDA) deputy chairman, Datuk Haidar Khan Asghar Khan, said the BIKF has been a symbol of Bintulu pride since its inception in 2005.
“The festival stands out on BDA’s yearly calendar, largely due to the strong support from kite-flying enthusiasts, both from Malaysia and abroad,” Haidar said when officiating at the BIKF at the Old Bintulu Airport today.
He thanked both government and private agencies for their unwavering support.
A special mention was made for the Bintulu Port Authority (BPA), which has come onboard as a strategic partner with the BDA in organising this renowned sports event from this year onwards. Other sponsors and partners were also acknowledged.
The festival, which began on September 27, has attracted 185 professional kite flyers from 40 countries and runs until October 1.
Also present were Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang, Bintulu Deputy Resident Abang Zainudin Abang Turkey, and BDA’s chief executive officer (CEO), Datuk Muhammad Yakup Kari.
