LAWAS: Seventy-three telecommunication towers are expected to be built under the Sarawak Linking Urban, Rural Nation (Saluran) initiative for Limbang and Lawas.
Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SEDC) chairman Tan Sri Datuk Amar Mohamad Morshidi Abdul Ghani disclosed that the projects would be completed by the end of 2022.
“Once these towers are completed and with satellite dishes, we expect the internet coverage in Limbang and Lawas to reach 96.1 percent compared to the current 59.6 percent,” he said at the launch of Sarawak Linking Urban Rural and Nation-Sarawak Rural Broadband Network (Saluran-MySRBN) initiative at Kampung Tengah in Trusan today (Oct 31).
According to Morshidi who is also a board member of the Sarawak Multimedia Authority (SMA), there were currently 10 sites in Limbang and Lawas with the Saluran-MySRBN.
“The Saluran initiative was launched to assist and address the issue of unsatisfactory internet connectivity, limited quota and latency.
“Under the initiative the people and users will enjoy unlimited internet with a speed of 30 megabits per second (Mbps).
“With the Saluran-MySRBN, there are many added values that the people can enjoy such as utilising telemedicine services,” he said.
He also noted that the Covid-19 pandemic had prompted Sarawakians to shift to online transactions and this has contributed to the demands for high speed internet.
