Intoxicated man jailed 12 months for injuring sibling

KUCHING: An excavator driver who injured his younger brother with a helmet was sentenced to 12 months in jail by the Sessions Court here on Monday (Jul 4).

The accused, Stephanie, aged 27, pleaded guilty before Judge Taufik Mohd Yusoff.

According to the charge, he intentionally injured his 18-year-old brother at their family residence in Jalan Capital Garden, around 2.30pm, last June 21.

He was prosecuted under Section 324 of the Penal Code, read with Section 326A of the same code, which carries imprisonment of up to ten years or a fine or caning upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, the complainant was in a rented house where their family lived, when he was suddenly struck using a helmet on the back and head by the accused.

The complainant suffered pain and bruises as well as injuries to his legs and arms as a result of being hit by a broken glass bottle.

Apart from that, the accused reportedly sharpened a machete and was known for threatening his family without cause.

The accused was also involved in drug abuse activities.

Concerned for the safety of himself and family members, the complainant then lodged a police report for further action.

It is understood that the accused committed the offence while under the influence of alcohol.
