KUCHING: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) has donated two intubation boxes and 100 custom-made face shields to Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
A statement issued by Unimas Global yesterday said the donation was for frontliners in the hospital who were involved in treating Covid-19 patients.
The products were made by Unimas inventors from the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Cognitive Sciences and Human Development, Faculty of Built Environment and Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology.
Project leader for the intubation box Dr Charles Bong Hin Joo said the intubation box had sliding doors on both sides for easy tube insertions.
“The intubation box is a transparent cube that covers a patient’s head during endotracheal intubation, a necessary procedure for Covid-19 patients who suffer from respiratory failure.
“The use of an intubation box provides additional protection for our healthcare troop during this invasive procedure,” he explained.
The intubation boxes and face shields were handed over to SGH representatives by Unima’ deputy vice Chancellor for Research & Innovation Professor Dr Wan Hashim at the Sarawak General Hospital on Monday.
Earlier, researchers from the Faculty of Resource Science and Technology formulated hand sanitisers after discovering they were in short supply.
The sanitisers were delivered to the Institute of Health and Community Medicine Unimas, the Unimas Health Centre, Unimas residential colleges and the Kota Samarahan Royal Malaysian Police.
