KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Minister of Economy, Datuk Hajjah Hanifah Hajar Taib said that investment in technology that is focusing on the development of smart infrastructure and internet access networks are the main pillar of sustainable development.

“Investments in 5G technology, data centers and artificial intelligence (AI) can attract more foreign investment into the country. This can directly position Malaysia as a hub for technological innovation and digital services in the Southeast Asian region,” she said

Hanifah stated that in her speech during the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) Signing Ceremony with Selangor Digital School (SDS) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Center (KLCC), here on Wednesday.

In the same event, she also witnessed the signing of MoU with 15 universities including Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Taylor’s University, Multimedia University (MMU), TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN UNIVERSITY (UTAR) and Monash University.

She further stressed that Malaysia’s development depends on the full cooperation between the public and private sectors, academia and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

“Malaysia will play its role to establish a conducive ecosystem so that job opportunities in the digital field and high-value industries develop sustainably,” she said.

Among the industries involved include the semiconductor industry, advanced manufacturing and AI.
