MIRI: The Ministry of Health (MOH) is launching a full investigation into a food poisoning incident at the Mara Junior Science College (MRSM) in Perak, which affected 31 students, some of whom required hospitalisation.

Deputy Health Minister Datuk Lukanisman Awang Sauni said swift action would be taken against those responsible for the incident.

He highlighted that the ministry would utilise Section 11 of the Food Act 1983 to carry out a comprehensive investigation into the case.

“We are conducting a thorough assessment, and action will be taken against the food operators involved. We must emphasise the importance of food safety, especially in government facilities such as schools and hospitals,” Lukanisman said during the NHMS 2024 data collecting programme here today (Sept 8).

He urged food operators to maintain high standards of hygiene, particularly in environments where the health of vulnerable groups, such as students, is at stake.

He also encouraged the public to report any irregularities to prevent such incidents from recurring.

The incident has attracted public attention, with MARA chairman Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki visiting the MRSM campus in Perak following the viral spread of a video highlighting unsanitary conditions in the dining hall.

The dining area has since been temporarily closed pending further investigation.
