MIRI: Sarawak police commissioner Datuk Aidi Ismail assured that an in-depth investigation will be conducted into an incident in which a 16-year-old girl was raped by a male detainee while in police custody on Jan 9.

“We will carry out a comprehensive investigation over this incident to determine whether there’s any negligence from our side,” he said when contacted on Saturday (Jan 16).

Two policemen on duty who were manning the lock-up that day have been suspended while investigations are being carried out, he said.

Aidi added that the suspect, aged 19, has been brought to court for the offence.

Earlier Saturday (Jan 16) afternoon, the victim’s father, accompanied by his counsel, Senator Alan Ling arrived at the Miri Central police station to lodge a report over the incident.
