SIBU: An evening blaze engulfed an iron tools factory at Lorong 2, Jalan Maling here on Tuesday, leaving the premises 80 per cent destroyed.
Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 7.20pm incident.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said firefighters from Sibu central station were deployed to the scene, about 4km away, after receiving a distress call.
In addition, firefighters from Sungai Merah station were also dispatched to assist in the extinguishing works.
“Upon arrival, they found the fire raging and performed the extinguishing works using water sourced from a ditch.
“The flames were brought under control at 8.09pm, and overhaul works were conducted to prevent any risk of reignition,” he said.
Once the situation was deemed safe, the teams ended the operation at 9.58pm.
Andy added that the cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
