Hermès is preparing to make its move on the cosmetics industry. The luxury fashion brand is in the process of developing skincare and cosmetics ranges scheduled for debut in the year 2020, as reported by Fashion Network earlier this month. Now, it is reported that the new products will roll out gradually, as the house adapts to the sector.
“It’s quite exciting: It’s a new activity, with all the risks that involves, so we will deploy it progressively, initially in our own stores mainly, in a limited distribution so that we can learn,” Hermès chief executive officer Axel Dumas recently told Business of Fashion of the new move.
The house has already built up a reputation for its luxury fragrance offerings, which, according to BoF, accounted for 5% of its total sales in the year 2018.
Hermès is not the only major fashion player with its eye on the beauty prize: Kering brand Gucci is also reportedly readying itself to double down on beauty, while luxury designer Victoria Beckham has been teasing an upcoming ‘Victoria Beckham Beauty’ line for some time. Sportswear giant Puma teamed up with Maybelline earlier this year to launch a 12-piece makeup collaboration, while Spanish fashion stalwart Zara launched a 20-piece lipstick collection in the UK late last year. – Relaxnews
