BINTULU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) is gearing up to adapt its campaign strategies to resonate with the younger demographic through a diverse array of activities and programs.
As the Jepak by-election campaign nears its conclusion, Iskandar Turkee, the GPS candidate, said it is important to understand the interests and preferences of the younger demographic before approaching them.
“The campaign strategies that have proven effective with other voter groups in the Jepak area, may not be suitable for engaging the youth.
“We must first identify their needs and interests, which range from gaming, e-sports, sepak takraw, futsal, boceh, and more.
“From there, we will tailor our programs and activities to align with the interests of the youth to better connect with them,” he said when met by reporters at a casual engagement with the people in Kampung Kemunting last night (Nov 1).
The former state director of the National Anti-Drugs Agency said he is also focusing on steering the youths away from social issues.
The 54-year-old pointed out that he is dedicated to proactively guiding the youth to acquire essential skills and making them more employable across various industries in Bintulu.
“For those interested in entrepreneurship, we will facilitate connections with government agencies and others to support their endeavours,” he said.
This Saturday (Nov 4), Iskandar will be involved in a three-cornered fight for the vacant Jepak state seat with Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) candidate Stevenson Joseph Sumbang, and Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (ASPIRASI) candidate Chieng Lea Ping.
The Jepak seat became vacant following the passing of Datuk Talib Zulpilip on Sept 15.
