BINTULU: The new Jepak assemblyman Iskandar Turkee has pledged to dedicate himself to serving the people of the constituency.
He said this will be carried out through providing services aligned with the community’s desires.
“The ‘exam’ is done, I passed. After this, I will give the best service to all of the people in Jepak,” he said when asked about his maiden win in the Jepak by-election last night (Nov 4).
Iskandar also took the opportunity to express his appreciation to all the voters, who have given solid support to Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the by-election.
“Thousands of thanks to all the voters in Jepak and also to all those involved, especially the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) as well as other GPS component parties, who have worked hard to ensure that we get this absolute victory,” he said.
Also present to celebrate Iskandar’s victory was Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Minister for Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom, Deputy Minister for Women and Childhood Development Datuk Rosey Yunus, Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming.
Iskandar polled a total of 9,638 votes with a majority of 8,784 thus, defeating Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) Stevenson Joseph Sumbang who scooped up 854 votes, and Parti Aspirasi Rakyat Sarawak (ASPIRASI) Chieng Lea Phing who garnered 431 votes.
