KUCHING: The late Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud had consistently upheld unity between the state and federal governments, which was crucial for the nation’s enduring prosperity, said Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
The former prime minister took to Facebook today to express his condolences on Taib’s passing, stating that his services and sacrifices to the country, especially Sarawak, were immense.
“We deeply mourn the loss of a revered figure who tirelessly dedicated himself to his homeland.
“Throughout his life, he always ensured that the relationship between the state and the federal governments remained intact for continued prosperity of the country.
“Our condolences to the family and all the people of Sarawak. May the soul of the deceased be showered with mercy and placed among the believers,” he said.
Similarly, Sembrong MP Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, via Instagram, acknowledged the late Taib’s significant contributions during his tenure as chief minister and governor of Sarawak.
“His loss is deeply felt by the nation, particularly Sarawak.
“Our deepest condolences to the family, close associates, and the people of Sarawak. Let us all pray together that the soul of the late Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud will be blessed with the mercy of Allah SWT,” he said.
Taib passed away at 4.40 am, aged 87, at a private hospital in Kuala Lumpur today.
