KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom has welcomed Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s message delivered in his maiden national address as Prime Minister on Sunday (Aug 22).
In his address, Ismail Sabri invited the leadership of opposition parties to be part of the National Recovery Council (MPN) and the Special Committee on Covid-19.
He had urged all parties to put an end to power struggles and the people’s restlessness, adding that political stability must be attained as soon as possible through togetherness and cross-party cooperation.
“Enough is enough, and the rakyat are tired of the power struggles and quarrelling among parties and party leaders that lead to uncertainty and instability of our beloved nation, plus the Covid-19 pandemic that adversely affects our lives and our livelihood,” Dr Rundi said on Tuesday (Aug 24).
“So, it is imperative for all Malaysians, irrespective of our political affiliations, to focus on getting our nation out of the pandemic victoriously.”
The Sarawak Utilities Minister said everyone’s support and cooperation were required to ensure successful recovery.
Meanwhile, Sarawak United People’s Party Women chief Kho Teck Wan also expressed support for the Prime Minister’s proposal to include opposition parties in the MPN and the Special Committee on Covid-19.
“There are credible leaders in the ruling and opposition parties. Including opposition party members in the MPN and the Covid-19 special committee will allow the injection of more diverse and creative ideas in the National Recovery Plan.”
She said the result of such an arrangement would be a recovery plan that includes the proposals of all parties, which would more likely be accepted by the opposition at the Parliamentary level.
She noted that the chaos observed during the last Parliament session yielded no productive results.
“The Prime Minister’s idea is great but the foundation of success is based on the condition that politicians from both sides will put their differences aside for the common goal of rebuilding our nation.”
