SIBU: A supermarket representative has been arrested for allegedly using criminal force to deter a deputy public prosecutor from discharging his duty after the company was charged for selling

pesticide-tainted vegetables.

Three others from the company were also arrested.

Sibu district police chief ACP Stanley Jonathan Ringgit said, the 47-year-old suspect was a clothes supplier for the supermarket.

At 3pm on July 8, the suspect, acting as the supermarket representative which is located in Sungai Merah, brought along two others to the Sibu Division Health Department as the company was being investigated under Section 41(3)(c) of Food Regulation 1985, for selling chillies which contained poison.

Upon arriving at the department, they were brought to the Judiciary Department by the investigating officer and another staff.

“The suspect went amok and shouted ‘Ini, ini, ini, siapa?’ (who had signed the charge sheet?). He also questioned why the company was accused of a small offence,” said Stanley.

It was then declared to the suspect that he was the one who had signed the charge sheet and tried to get the suspect to calm down but to no avail.

“We have arrested four suspects. Three of them, who were at the scene, will be investigated under Section 353 of the Penal Code for using criminal force on the complainant and for tearing up the charge sheet.  The fourth person, who was not at the scene, is the owner of the company, for the alleged offence under Food Regulation 1985, and he has also been withheld,” he added.

The three suspects have been remanded while another was released on police bail after her statement was taken as she is four months pregnant.
