KUCHING: In an early evening incident on Sunday, a domestic flight from Kuala Lumpur to Sandakan was forced to divert to Miri Airport when a pregnant passenger showed signs of labour.
The AK5194 aircraft carrying 130 passengers and six crew members touched down at Miri Airport around 5.28pm.
Upon arriving, the woman was rushed to Miri Hospital in an ambulance which was already on standby.
Miri Hospital director Dr Jack Wong confirmed that the female passenger, originally from Sandakan, gave birth to a healthy boy around 5.58pm.
“The mother and baby are well,” he told reporters yesterday.
The aircraft is believed to have departed for Sandakan at 6.27pm.
