KUCHING: To ensure check and balance in the government administration, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) must be headed by an opposition leader.
Sarawak Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Chong Chieng Jen said that it is part of the PH manifesto to appoint an opposition leader as the chairman of PAC.
“Obviously, Nur Izzaah Anwar’s resignation was due to the PAC chairman, who is no longer from the opposition side,” Chong said when asked to comment on the Permatang Pauh MP’s resignation as a member of the PAC yesterday.
He said more efforts would be made to ensure the coalition continued to uphold its principles and promises.
“Yes, we strongly believe it is necessary to appoint someone from the opposition,” he told reporters after the launch of the state-level Illicit Beer Awareness Campaign at Imperial Hotel here today.
