KUCHING: The graduates from the 1973-1977 batches of Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM) Sarawak will be organising a reunion here today (Sept) 23 and tomorrow (Sept 24).
Organising chairman Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi said that this year’s reunion, not only is it their annual get-together, but also marks the golden anniversary of ITM Sarawak, founded in 1973.
Ismail said, “We’ve spent a year reaching out to old classmates and friends. We’re proud to say that this year, we’ll see 118 former students — the most since our official yearly gatherings started in 2015. Some of us haven’t seen each other in over 40 years!”
The alumni will come together here, the city where their journey began. They’ll reminisce about their days at ITM — the shared spaces with Batu Lintang Teachers College, simple wooden classrooms, tight living spaces, and the bond formed from facing challenges in a new educational environment.
Ismail added that the alumni are arriving from various parts of Malaysia, many with their partners including from the USA.
The two-day reunion will be packed with activities. There’s a local welcome dinner, a tour of Serikin and Bau, a visit to their old Batu Lintang campus, and it will wrap up with a grand dinner tomorrow (Sunday) at The Waterfront Hotel, Kuching.
