KUCHING: A heart-warming reunion was held at the Waterfront Hotel today as 180 alumni of the Institut Teknologi Mara (ITM) Sarawak Branch gathered for a special dinner.
The attendees, who had studied at ITM Sarawak from 1973 to 1977, came together to celebrate their shared past and strengthen their bonds of friendship.
Organising chairman Datuk Ismail Abang Saufi expressed his emotions about the event, highlighting its smooth execution and the nostalgic atmosphere it created.
“Some of us have just met again after being separated for 40 years, since leaving ITM.
“Some alumni attended using wheelchairs, and there were also friends who attended with canes. This gathering was special moment for all of us and the memory will be cherished forever,” he said in a statement.
The dinner also marked the celebration of the ‘Golden Anniversary’ of ITM Sarawak Branch, commemorating its 50 years of establishment.
In addition to the dinner, fellow alumni who came from all over Borneo also had the opportunity to visit Pasar Serikin and enjoy local Sarawak foods.
A Yassin recitation ceremony was also conducted to honour and remember the friends who have passed on.
Expressing his hope for similar programmes in the future, he emphasised the significance of such gatherings, especially in their later years when the support of friends becomes increasingly valuable.
“When we are this old, we really need friends around us and a programme like this is very appropriate and beautiful,” he said.
