1,000 HOUSEMEN
KUCHING: The decision to station 1,000 housemen in public hospitals nationwide was described as a win-win situation for both the medical department and the community.
Welfare, Community Wellbeing, Women, Family and Childhood Development Minister Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said this when contacted by New Sarawak Tribune yesterday on the Health Ministry’s move on Saturday in Johor Bahru.
Its minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba recently mentioned that this will make hospital operations run more smoothly in view of the Covid-19 outbreak.
Fatimah stated, “This is a time when medical staff such as doctors and nurses’ hands are full — thus, there is a need for extra hands in the department.
“These housemen, who are posted in public hospitals nationwide, are able to provide the necessary assistance under the supervision of local doctors.”
Seeing that Malaysia have been receiving more reports on positive Covid-19 and Person Under Investigation (PUI) cases, hospitals and clinics are all hands on deck to curb the spread of this global outbreak.
She said that such decision is a win-win situation for both the medical department and the community at large.
Adding on, Dr Adham noted that these housemen will also have to go through a five-day induction course, which includes handling Covid-19 elements.
All 1,000 of them will be stationed at public hospitals nationwide today (Mar 16), to assist the doctors and nurses who are at the frontline combating this viral pandemic in the country and state.
