MUKAH: A local Chinese community leader has called upon the new prime minister to pay more attention to Sarawak for the development of the state as it has helped co-founded Malaysia 58 years ago.
Kapitan Kang Boon Eong, 55, is certainly not the only Sarawakian to make such a call to the newly minted Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
Kang said it is high time for Sarawak to be treated as an equal partner in Malaysia.
He said for so many years, Sarawak has been humble enough to be treated as one of the states in Malaysia, instead of an equal partner.
“Now, Sarawak cannot be cheated anymore as many of its people are more aware and knowledgeable about its rights and powers under the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said today (Aug 24).
Ismail Sabri, 61, was appointed the ninth prime minister on Aug 20, and it is reported that the former deputy prime minister is expected to announce his administration’s Cabinet line-up this week.
