SIBU: S&P Global Ratings has affirmed the ‘A-‘ rating it gave to Sarawak for its stable earnings outlook.

Robert Lau

Sibu Rural District Council (SRDC) deputy chairman, Robert Lau, pointed this out when contacted on Tuesday.

He was glad to have this information widely known because it is proof of the careful and prudent management of the state’s financial resources by the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

“This is despite the failure of the federal government to honour its promises of giving 20 percent oil and gas royalty, and returning 50 percent of tax collected from Sarawak.

“Sarawakians would have much better infrastructure and public services if the additional funds were returned to Sarawak instead of being used in Malaya,” said Lau, who is also Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan branch chairman.

He said the state government would have to continue working on recovering Sarawak’s wealth and achieve financial and economic autonomy.
