SIBU: A 36-year-old man was indicted in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday for committing two criminal offences by threatening his mother and damaging her property.
For the first charge, Magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar sentenced Masfadilla Onara to 12 months’ jail for committing criminal intimidation by threatening his 63-year-old mother with fear of destruction of her property by fire at her house in Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku on May 15 at about 9 am.
The offence falls under Section 506 of the Penal Code.
For the second charge, Syukri fined the accused RM2,000 in default two months’ jail for committing mischief by causing damage to a glass window of the house, a table and a cushion chair which resulted in losses of RM100. The offfence is listed under Sectioin 427 of the Penal Code.
In outlining the brief facts of the case, prosecuting officer Insp Badrul Iskandar told the court that on May 15 at about 9 am, at a house in Kampung Bahagia Jaya Teku, the accused damaged and broke a glass window belonging to his mother, the complainant.
The accused further threatened his mother by stating that if she lodged a police report, he could explode the house by using a gas cylinder.
Upon hearing that, the complainant felt scared. She then lodged a police report for further action.
Later at the same day at about 1.25 pm, a team of police led by Insp Julkiram Kirah proceeded to the scene.
Upon arrival, Insp Julkiram introduced himself to the accused by showing his authority card.
The accused was then detained and brought to the the police station for further investigation.
he outcome of investigation revealed that on May 15 around 9 am, the accused had threatened to blow up the complainant’s house with a gas cyclinder.
The accused had also damaged and broken a glass window of the house, a table and a cushion chair and the incident was witnessed by the accused’s sister.
The accused had to serve two more months in jail as he could not pay the fine.
