Jailed for disposal of stolen property

SIBU: A 32-year-old man was sentenced to six months’ jail by the Magistate’s Court here yesterday for assisting in the disposal of stolen property.

Tan Jin Hua from Ulu Sungai Merah pleaded guilty to the charge before magistrate Mohd Syukri Mokhtar.

The offence was framed under Section 414 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 34.

According to the charge sheet, the accused had, together with another person still at large, voluntarily assisted in the disposal of property which he knew to be stolen at Lembaga Sungai Tanjung Lebaan, Bawang Assan on May 15 at about 1.18 pm.

The stolen property were a transformer, pole mounted main wiring, pole mounted fuse and ABFI set.

Prosecuting officer Insp Badrul Iskandar Selamat told the court that on May 9, around 2.15 pm. the complainant aged 28 was informed by a member of the public about the theft of Sesco goods at Lembaga Sungai Tanjung Lebaan, Bawang Assan.

In about 10 minutes’ time, the Sesco’s contractor arrived at the scene and found several items including a transfomer, pole mounted main wiring, pole mounted fuse and ABFI set missing.

Acting on a tip-off at about 10.05 am, a team of police led by Insp Kumareswan arrested the accused in the vicinity of the Sibu Court house.

Police investigation revealed that the accused and another still at large had assisted in the disposal of the stolen property on May 15 at about 1.18 pm.
